Carnivorous plants

What is insectivore?

In plant, we catch insect by good "trap", and we digest, and own nourishment and strong men doing are. We call these "insectivore".
But why will you catch insect and small animal?
There are many wet wasteland or moors in place where insectivore grows, and Nikko and moisture are supplied enough. However, we catch insect as there is little nourishment in soil to make up for nourishment that is apt to be short.

Friend of pitcher plant has "trap = catching insects bag" such as gourd. We draw small animal to "mitsu" and "smell" appearing from "catching insects bag" and invite to catching insects bag. [1]

It is plant which tomfool closes leaf and captures insects such as fly or ant and eats. [2]

A large number of leaves roll up burokkinia, and, into a pipe form, it is said that we invite insect by being allowed to become yellowish green, and attracting attention and we arrest insect with water in leaf and digest. [3]

Friend of sundew has cilia on leaf and we take out viscous liquid and catch small insect. Co-sundew grows wild in Okinawa. [4]

Friend of sarracenia. Leaf is colorful, and there is thing of various forms including barrel, long pipe form, bag form. Entrance of leaf produces smell and honey and it is slippery in bag and drops insect which is invited, and came over. [5]

Friend of copter amphora resembles sarracenia in appearance, but upper how to open insectivorous leaves is big, and it is characteristic that the upper cover is small. [6]

How do you arrest?

Three kinds are known to "trap" to catch insect mainly.

Pit expression

A part of the leaf totally becomes into bag form and a pipe form like pit. The pitcher plant genus, sarracenia, the Darling Tonya genus, the copter amphora genus, the bag creeping saxifrage genus become like this.

Act as go-between; expression

We follow a lot of hair giving liquid which was sticky on the surface of leaf, and it is like the adhesion seat. Drosera, the butterwort genus become like this.

Trap type

We feel movement of insect including thing breathing in in thing which closes leaf, and sandwiches, and is crowded, structure of pipette and react. The tomfool genus, utricularia become like this.

Type and distribution of insectivore

About 500 kinds of insectivores are known all over the world. Various-shaped insectivore lives a life in water for each different environment when place growing varies according to types, and hot place, cool place get wet.

Friend of sundew is distributed over tropical Asia, Australian damp ground from cold place including tundra zone. About 150 kinds are known in the world, and it is Australia that has most types, and about 60 kinds are distributed in that. [1]

It is classified roughly, and friend of butterwort is distributed over Takayama zone (tropical Takayama) of Mexico, Japanese and European Takayama (the temperate zone Takayama product), North American level ground (the temperate zone low land product), South American Takayama (tropical Takayama South America product), four groups. [2]

There are few friends of sarracenia, and there are eight kinds and we hang on damp ground of Southern U.S. from the Canadian eastern part and are distributed. [3][4]

As for the friend of pitcher plant, about 70 kinds are known to area around Madagascar, northern part Australia, New Caledonia, India around tropical Asia. [5]

Tomfool grows wild in only in North Carolina of the American East Coast, damp area of plains of both states of South Carolina. [7]

We pass, and four kinds are known to friend of reamphora for representative insectivore of the South American Guiana Highlands. Kinds to be seen in every tepui 1,000m above sea level or more are different and they are isolated by each and are distributed. [8]
